SOFund Scowcroft Scholar Program
Special Operations Fund
2020 Lieutenant General Brent Scowcroft Scholarship Program
In Recognition and Appreciation
Lieutenant General Brent Scowcroft (USAF Retired) has faithfully served our nation for over 50 years. His foreign policy skills, critical advice and counsel to three Presidents have helped guide our nation through many turbulent and dangerous times. In recent years General Scowcroft has been a mentor, steadfast supporter and generous benefactor of the Special Operations Fund (SOFund). In recognition of his service to our nation and the SOFund, the Board of Directors established the Special Operations Fund Scowcroft Scholar Program (SSP) in fall 2011. The purpose of this program is to identify and support the next generations of leaders as they prepare themselves for future service to our country.
2020 Scowcroft Scholarship Program Parameters:
The SOFund will provide a $10,000 annual undergraduate educational scholarship to exemplary awardees from among the Rangers/Unit/Night Stalker/SEAL/USAF candidates’ pool each year. Each SSP recipient selected will be a graduating high school senior entering their first year in college.
Reflecting General Scowcroft’s intelligence, character, service, and leadership the recipient chosen each year will demonstrate exemplary secondary school credentials, not just academically, but also in extracurricular and personal activities. To be eligible for consideration a candidate must have tested in the top 85% of those taking the SAT or ACT and be in the top 10% of their class (or for students whose high schools do not provide a rank in class, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or an equivalent). In addition, a candidate will be expected to have held positions of major responsibility and leadership in extracurricular activities, sports, and service organizations.
As long as the recipient continues to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and makes satisfactory progress towards meeting graduation requirements on time, the Scowcroft Scholar Program will sustain their scholarship for each undergraduate year through the recipient’s senior year.
The SSP’s Selection Committee includes SOFund Board of Directors, and Educational Consultants. The Selection Committee will review the prospective SSP applicants by means of a redacted PDF copy of the SSP application.
The Selection Committee will select that prospective SSP applicant who meets the SOFund’s requirements and who is the best qualified candidate as judged by the Committee. Special Operations Fund 2020 Lieutenant General Brent Scowcroft Scholarship Program
Applicants for the SOFund Scowcroft Scholar Program award will email their PDF applications directly to the Night Stalker Foundation (NSF). As noted, each applicant will be responsible for submitting the following information: the highest scores obtained in either the SAT or ACT standardized tests; computed rank in class as certified by the applicant’s school; the cumulative grade point average, including the rating scale used by the applicant’s school; a list of extracurricular activities, including leadership positions held; a compilation of work or community service activities pursued, and provide a 500 word essay on a topic chosen by the SSP’s Selection Committee. The NSF will review and email the applications of their top three qualified students to the SOFund.
The SSP award will be disbursed by the Special Operations Fund to the appropriate college or university after appropriate documentation of authorized educational costs.
The SSP award can be revoked at any time if a SSP recipient fails to advance academically, or their personal conduct brings shame or dishonor upon their family name, undergraduate institution, Special Operations Fund and/or their respective Rangers/Unit/Night Stalker/SEAL/USAF scholarship organization.
